Samoa: A Journey of Nature, Culture & Connection

10th May – 17th May 2025

We headed to Samoa to do what we love most, explore a destination firsthand so we can share real, trusted advice with our clients. And this trip? It was unforgettable. A week of waterfalls, traditional dances, local chats, and sun-soaked swims in the bluest water you can imagine.

Whether you're after adventure or a chance to fully switch off, Samoa gives you both. We left feeling connected, refreshed, and inspired to help others experience the same magic.

Highlights of Our Samoan Escape

Robert Louis Stevenson Museum
Tucked into the hills near Apia, this beautifully restored home offers a quiet glimpse into the life of the famous author. Wandering the verandas and gardens, we felt like we’d stepped back in time. It’s peaceful, soulful, and the perfect place to slow down and take it all in.

Alofaaga Blowholes
These natural blowholes were one of the most spectacular sights of the trip. When the waves rush in through the lava rocks, water shoots sky-high like geysers—nature showing off in the best way. From June to October, you might even catch a whale breaching in the distance.

Afu A’au Waterfall
We found the ultimate way to cool off in Samoa’s tropical heat. Surrounded by lush greenery, the falls are tucked away in Savai’i, and the swim in that fresh, clear water was absolute bliss.

To Sua Ocean Trench
A true Samoan icon—and for good reason. Climbing down into this 30-metre deep natural swimming hole felt like entering another world. It’s peaceful, dramatic, and completely unique. The gardens, cliff views, and nearby rock pools make it a full experience, not just a photo stop.

Lalomanu Beach
Soft white sand, snorkelling straight off the shore, and a relaxed local vibe—Lalomanu quickly became a favourite. It's the kind of place you lose track of time, and that’s exactly the point.

The Spirit of Samoa

Beyond the landscapes, what really touched us was the warmth of the people. Everywhere we went, we were met with open arms, kind smiles, and genuine hospitality. We were treated like family from day one.

The traditional singing and dancing we experienced—especially at Amoa Resort—was full of heart and culture. You could feel the pride and joy in every movement. And even something as simple as a morning jog in Savai’i became a memory, thanks to every “Talofa” from locals along the way.

We also spent time connecting with Samoan Tourism and local resort owners, who shared how they’re caring for their land and culture while creating welcoming spaces for travellers. Their passion was inspiring, and it gave us even more reason to share this destination with our KNL travellers.

Where we stayed

During our time in Samoa, we were lucky to stay at a selection of beautiful resorts that gave us a true feel for Samoan hospitality:

Taumeasina Island Resort
With sweeping ocean views and a great location near Apia, this resort offered the perfect blend of island luxury and accessibility. It’s a beautiful base to explore from—or just relax with a cocktail by the pool.

Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel & Bungalows
A stay here is a step into Samoan history, right in the heart of Apia. Spacious, elegant, and full of charm, perfect for travellers wanting a touch of tradition with modern comfort.

Coconuts Beach Club Resort & Spa
This was a highlight for us—uniquely Samoan, with beautiful overwater fales, friendly staff, and a gorgeous lagoon just steps from your room. Ideal for honeymooners or anyone wanting that true island escape.

Amoa Resort
Warm, welcoming, and full of heart—this boutique Savai’i stay gave us a real taste of island life. The dancing, the food, and the setting made it feel like home away from home.

Return to Paradise Resort & Spa
Beautiful beach, heartfelt service, and some of the yummiest meals we had all week. There's a lovely local connection here, it’s easy to see why so many guests return again and again.

We also had the chance to visit and inspect a number of other fantastic properties across both islands. Each one offered something unique, whether it was stunning beachfront locations, incredible dining, or eco-conscious practices. These visits gave us even more insight into what’s available, and we’re excited to help match our clients with the stay that suits them best.

Where We Ate

We found great food all over Samoa, but a few bites truly stood out:

  • Fresh tuna at Seabreeze Resort – unforgettable.

  • Coffee and chicken & chips opposite Savaii Lagoon Resort – don’t miss this little gem.

  • Every single meal at Return to Paradise – simple, flavourful, and full of love.

Just a heads-up: breakfast across Samoa tends to be simple—think toast, fruit, and eggs—but it’s exactly what you need to start the day right.

Travel Tips & Recommendations

  • Pack for island time – things move at a slower pace, and honestly, that’s part of the charm.

  • Bring reef shoes – for exploring pools and beaches with ease.

  • Rent a car – it gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace, whether you do a full loop in a day or take it slow over several.

  • Chat with locals – the people are the heart of this island.

  • Stay longer if you can – with so much to see between Upolu and Savai’i, a week goes fast.

Final Thoughts

Samoa gave us everything - quiet moments in freshwater pools, laughter at local dance nights, and deep conversations with passionate locals. It’s a destination that invites you to connect—to nature, to people, and to the rhythm of island life.

If you’re ready to discover Samoa, we’d love to help you plan a journey that fits your style. Whether that’s full adventure, relaxed resort life, or a mix of both - we’re here to make it easy, seamless, and full of heart.

Let’s write your Samoan story together.
